Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is situated above the Mekong Delta. This place is situated some 40km north of the South China Sea. Ho chi Mimh city is a boomtown where dollar is in absolute power. Ho Chi Minh City boasts of immaculate hotels, restaurants, bars between the colonial villas, Soviet-style housing-blocks, etc. But unfortunately there are many people, for whom development hasn’t yet transformed into lodgings, food, and employment. And this is the reason why stealing, begging, and prostitution are facts of life here. Petty crime has increased a lot in last few years. You should be careful about your bag while walking in the street. You should be more careful after dark. Even it is not safe while riding in a motorcycle. Tourist night shops are the places where these crimes take place.

Ho Chi Minh City started its life as a fishing village. At that time it was known as Prei Nokor. Later during the Angkor period, it flourished as a depot for Cambodian boats. The boats were pushing down the Mekong River. In the seventeenth century it boasted a Khmer garrison as well as a community of Indian, Malay, and Chinese traders. The history of the place is really interesting if you go deep. Previously the place was named as Saigon. In the year 1975 Ho Chi Minh movement rolled through the gates of the presidential palace. Most of the communists were under control. And within a year of this, Saigon had been called as Ho Chi Minh City.
