The people of Vietnam like to celebrate their events and festivals. These have become a major part in their lives. The Vietnamese are very friendly and they always co-operate with others. In Vietnam rural population dominates over the urban population. Community spirit is extremely maintained amongst most of the villagers. The festivals and events are more or less agricultural based. Every new generation tries to preserve these and also improve year after year.
According to the traditional Lunar Calendar, the month of January and February are observed as International New Year’s Day. On February 3rd Ho chi Minh established the Foundation of Communist Party in Hong Kong. Other events like International Labor Day, Liberation Day, Ho Chi Minh’s Birthday, Hai Ba Trung Day, and Buddha’s Birthday are celebrated between the month of March and May.
In the month of August the Vietnamese celebrate a day as the ‘Day of the Wandering Souls’. At this day the Vietnamese offer foods to their dead relatives. The relatives are believed to come and visit the Vietnamese. September 2nd is celebrated as their Independence Day. This is followed by Ho Chi Minh’s Death Anniversary. September 3rd is celebrated at that day. The festival named Trung Thu is celebrated in the same month. In this festival the children parade along with lanterns. Chinese pastries are also eaten in this. Birthday of Confucius is celebrated in the month of November.
